Leading Strategically
Escape Hatch started this redesign by sitting down with a thorough research phase to hear opinions from school stakeholders, review analytics, and revisit parent surveys we’d conducted the year prior. These insights powered our recommendation to break the site into 4 focal areas of the school experience: Academics, Student Life, Athletics, and Community. With these four pillars established we designed a homepage to direct the user journey into these areas to get a well rounded view of life at WC.

Menus – Big Menus, small menus
School Websites are unique in that they are a big resource for both parents of current students and a big brochure for potential student-parents. When designing the new website for WC, we used bold, immersive main menus along with strategically placed sub-menus to provide a constant pathway to new content and to keep exploration of the site as fun as it is intuitive.

For Every Feature, A Block
What makes this site so compelling, if you’re a nerd, is that every single feature you see on the site is its own flexible, reusable block. Think of each block as a tool in the client’s tool belt. Need to display statistics? Stats block. Need to a scrollable list of important dates? Date block. The flexibility of WordPress’s Gutenberg system makes it possible to hand the client a beautiful library of on-brand features (blocks) that empowers them to create new pages and experiences when and where they need them.

Powering Up Parents
One of our favorite things about the new WC school website is its focus on providing parents with up-to-date information. In mobile, this takes the place of a large “Parents” button in the navigation that offers up 1-tap access to the most important parent resources. On desktop, a more robust full-screen feature allows parents to see the latest news alongside a selection of quick links and a client-defined announcement bar. It’s an innovative way to give our #1 audience the fastest access to WC’s more pertinent content.
